Most people who get a puppy do some level of crate training. While crates can be a wonderful training tool they can also be very unattractive. Shopping at your local pet store you probably won’t find any crates that will match your decorating style. Most often they are metal or plastic monstrosities. This will not be a big issue if you will use your crate in the garage or for traveling. 
 
But many of us prefer to have Fido indoors which means the crate will be in our homes. There are a few things you can do to avoid an ugly crate. The two biggest options available to your are to purchase a crate cover or buy a crate that looks like furniture.

Dog crate covers are a simple and inexpensive way to improve the looks of your dog crate. The will also help to create a safe and cozy environment for your dog. Many dogs appreciate the den feeling that adding a crate cover provides. Often you can find crate covers for less than forty dollars. If you want something other than a crate cover consider purchasing a crate made to look like furniture. One popular option is a wicker crate. These crates do not clean out easily like plastic and metal so you should wait until your dog is potty trained to use wicker. There are also designer crates out there that double as other pieces of furniture. Most of these type of crates hide the crate area under a table top. These crates will not be cheap or easy to clean so it makes sense to hold off on buying one until you know your dog is house trained.
