Many animals have a difficult time adjusting to a new home. A dog crate can help make the transition easier for your new dog. Crates allow your dog to feel like they have a safe place. They are also an effective way to house train your dog. You will have the best luck with a dog crate if you purchase the right kind. There are many sizes of dog crate and you want one that is a good fit for your dog. 
 
You may want to buy a crate that matches your dog’s fully grown size if you have a puppy. You do not want a crate that is too large or your dog may choose to use a back corner for a bathroom. Once you find the right crate you will need to make it more comfortable. One thing it is important to add is a soft dog crate bed. This helps to turn the crate into a special and safe place where your dog can go for a nap or a good night’s sleep. 
 
Most dogs will be fine with a regular crate bed. You many need orthopedic dog crate beds if you have an older dog. Older dogs should not be left in the crate for too long since their muscles can cramp. You should make sure that your older dog comes out of the crate every couple of hours so he can stretch his legs. A great addition to your dog crate is some nice squeeze toys. It is a good idea to rotate a couple of toys in at a time to help prevent boredom. Some people find that they like to keep the dog’s food and water dishes next to the crate. Once the dog is fully house trained you can take off the door and let your dog have the freedom to go in out as he chooses.
